I was planning on getting a short shifter. I came across a OBX short shifter. Anyone have any opinions on them? Also what about the B&M Edge Short shifter?? I saw it on a auction and it said that B&M offers a lifetime warranty on it. So if it breaks the replace for free!

 

I have a generic short throw from AutoZone, and it has been nothing short of awesome for the nearly a year I've had it. IMHO what really makes the difference is the bearing in the bottom, along with the two included spacers, which allows you to tighten the throughbolt all the way withouth affecting effort required to move the shifter.

I have tried a B&M shifter in my friend's Civic and it did not feel as nice as mine. I have also heard of it having MANY problems with rattling. I also don't like the non-factory shape. Your shift knob will sit farther away from you if you use it.

 

Oh I c... i heard that the cheap ones suck cuase where there is the ball its breaks off easily cause its cheap.. so my friend told me to get like a dc or something.. do you shift pretty hard? you have never had any probs with it?

 

Most people will say the DC shifter is just as bad as the generic ones because they are aluminum. I think most problems w/ breakage have occured at the threads below the shift knob (Hondas use a small-ish 8mm thread for shift knobs). My shift knob attaches to the shift lever far below the threads w/ setscrews, where the lever itself is much thicker. I have raced with it (both drag and autox) and I've never had a single problem, ever. Here's a pic, the lever itself is exactly the same height as stock, but my shift knob sits about 2" lower than stock. Throw length is shorter than a stock Miata 6-speed shifter. :thumbup:

 

Skunk2 short shifters are supposed to be awesome. Everyone I know that has one says it's better than the B&M and I have yet to hear a problem of one rattling or rough shifting. But the Skunk2 one is also a little more expensive... (btw: the skunk2 shift knob is sweet, it looks like an ITR knob)

 

WOW your **** looks nice what kind of shift knob and short shifter do you have?

 

Generic shifter from AutoZone, and Razo shift knob. I like the shift knob (even though it gets hot), but I probably wouldn't buy it again. I just had it from my old car, and the GS-R shift knob is so butt ugly and tall that I replaced it ASAP. So that makes it sort of a no-buck mod hehehe :thumbup:

My brother and I recently put in a Skunk 2 Short shifter in my car. All I have to say is, its worth every penny. Shifting is awesome now. And its pretty easy to put in. I do suggest you have your exhaust out of the way, which is what I did. I was doing my exhaust at the same time so it made life a lot easier dealing with the short shifter.

 

my cousin and i put a dc shifter in my car about a week ago. I think its great. you can get skunk2, b&m, dc etc. i think they're all pretty much the same. just get the cheaper one. i havent heard good things bout the obx so i couldnt tell you anything bout that
