Default 18" rims on an Integra? - Help!

I am getting a '95 Integra GSR in less than a week and rims are on my list of initial upgrades. Ideally I would like 18's (Racing Hart Z5000), but I think I once heard that 18's on a 'teg will not leave enough clearance around the control arm or something like that. I've seen Integra's with 18's, but I don't know if I need to do anything else. Also, roads in Connecticut are literally the 3rd worst in the nation, w/ potholes and contruction, etc. I'm afraid I'll get the rims and hit a massive pothole the first day. Any recommendations for this, other than a larger tire width (heightwise)? Also, is a camber kit and/or front end alignment necessary and how tough is the camber kit to install? Lastly, I will be lowering the car the minimize wheel gap, etc. I was planning on the cheaper ($150) coilovers. I know ride quality is sacrificed, but how bad is it really. I like the idea of adjustable height. Are lowering springs any better? Either way I'd like to spend less than $250 max on lowering it. Any help would be great. Thanks much

I'd put on a flame suit if I were you.
I'll wait for some other replies then come back with one of my own (not a flame).

Good luck.

18's are HUGE, I have 17's and they are plenty big. As for the coilovers, if you go cheap, you will **** up everything suspension wise (ride quality, reliability, etc.). Do it right the first time with shocks and springs, then it will not cost you later. Save the money you were gonna spend on 18's, and put some of that into your suspension.

Even 17's seem like stretching it. You're probably better off with a set of 16's with a set of 205/45/16's. If the roads are as bad as you say they are, then I would play it safe and get a slightly smaller wheel than 18's and get that protection from a larger sidewall.

:werd: anything bigger than 17 just looks tacky and wrong on an integra.

17s are more on the aesthetic side of functionality,
16s are the best combo for looks and performance,
and 15s are best purely for performance, unless you use stock 14s, but you've got a GSR so thats not an issue.

For $250 or less you're better off with a set of non-aggressive lowering springs (such as Comptech's; *can* work with stock shocks). $299 will get you a very nice and proven Ground Control system that will allow you to lower, slam, and dump your ride up to 3-4". Obviously your stock shocks are not going to like this but given your budget and preoccupation with appearance these will be fine until you can save up for some Koni's and whatnot.

18" wheels like like @zz on a stock-bodied Integra. Quality 18" wheels + tires are also pretty expensive.

ps. Try searching the forum for wheel/tire combo's and suspension setups

Personally I think anything larger than 16s makes an Integra look like a clown car.
