It will not destroy your transmission, only your shifting will.

I don't know how much it helps your quarter mile times... but i do know that it gave a more precise shift on my car. Make sure you get shift bushings as well, some of the kits do not come with them. I am using a DC Sports on my teg right now and i like it, but there have been complaints about it, if you use the search.
