Default 98 type R, best route to go when rebuilding

I just bought a 98 theft recovery type R. The motor was stolen along with the front end body panels.

I'm thinking, since the motor is gone and a new type R motor will run me over $5600, should I go GSR turbo? It will cost me about the same amount of money. But is that smart? Because then the car is not a type R anymore. The owner of a local race shop told me to keep it as a type R, and NOT put a gsr in there, even if it is turbo.

The whole reason I'm concerned is because of resale value. Will future buyers not treat is a type R if the motor is a GSR turbo? I'm thinking most buyers will not be concerned that its not a type R motor because its cranking out 300 hp, but this other guy doesn't agree.

You shouldn't worry about resale value, since the car is already considered a theft recovery.

it all depends if u want speed/power or would u rather keep the car original and have 160ish horses at the wheels? If it was me (but i know its not) i would get the gsr engine and boost it.

If I were buying a Type R I would want a Type R engine in it. I'd think you'd have a better chance at selling it that way. Just my 2 cents.

Did you buy it just to resell it? IF it has the suspension and everything i would swap the itr engine back in and use it for road racing. I find it pointless to use an itr for drag. As far as reselling it is pretty hard to sell a honda that has been turbo'd. People would probably rather have a complete Itr with a salvage title than an itr body with a turbo gsr engine.

I have seen supercharged acuras selling very well before, so I was thinking that this would sell the same.

And my thinking is that if someone wants a FULL type R, they are looking for the type r because of the name. These consumers are the people who are looking for the quality of type r. These people do not want a theft recovery.

But the people who would consider buying a salvage title are the ones who can over look that buy what the car has to offer. A car pushing close to 300 hp will strike their attention.

What would YOU rather buy, I'd like all your opinions...

First, I think you should decide on what you really want to do with the car. It sounds like you really want to go for power (GSR turbo), but you're concerned about the resale value.

I personally would get a B18C5 and go the all-motor route, but that's because I have a different vision of what I want my car to do. Obviously there's no "best route" to go when rebuilding, it's whatever you want to do and whatever meets your budget.

Oh, and it's not at all impossible to turbo a B18C5...

If it were me and I was keeping it, I'd stick with the B18C5. If you don't want to shell out the duckets, build a B18C1 N/A and drop it in.
