Default for those with aftermarket spoilers...

since some are heavier than others, what kind of extra reinforcement do you use to make sure the hatch gas struts don't break? Mine already broke, and I found a used pair to put on.

I know they'll break in time, but are there ways to help support the hatch more in addition to the hatch struts?

Thanks!

Would that blow out the strut? I would think it would just not support the hatch & spoiler, but to actually break the strut seems like an unreasonable outcome.

That being said, what did you bolt to the hatch? How heavy is that thing?

I'm not talking about the gas suspension struts, I'm talking about the struts that support the hatch/trunk. (that's what the acura guy called them)
You know, that hydraulic lift/pump thing that helps support the trunk when you open or close it.

My started leaking and just gave up. I have the ricey Wings West commando wing I bought back in 1998...it broke after about 3 years of me putting that wing in.

must be a heavy wing. If it took 3 years to blow then just put in some new ones and change them again in another 3 years when they die again.

I think the proper term for the "struts" that hold up the hatch is "stays."

Stays migth be a better term for them - I never much though about it, but I knew what we were talking about.

I'm still suprised that installing the spoiler ruined this part. How old is the 'teg? Any chance it was coincidental or did you notice big problems immediatley after installing the new spoiler?

well, i put the spoiler in 98, and the stays finally gave in a couple of months ago....if I remember..they just started leaking and if weather is a factor, it broke when we hit sub-freezing temperatures down here.

so, i got a hold of new ones, but haven't installed them yet.....need some suggestions on how maybe to reinforce it some more......
