I was cruising through some websites, and I stumbled upon some weight figures for the teg............the LS weighs 2529 lbs, the type r weighs 2639 lbs, and the GS-R weighs 2765 lbs !! After reading this horrendous figure for the GS-R, I decided that my first project for mine will be some weight reduction. The wheels that I have weigh a little less than 13 lbs each, so that is a good start. Next, I will literally remove everything that does not NEED to be on there, while trying to maintain a stock appearance .
I dont know if any of you guys have dabbled with weight reduction at all, but basically I wanted to know if you guys knew of any parts on the GS-R ( starting with the jack and spare tire) that are of considerable weight AND can be removed ?

 

rear wiper and motor assembly. and if you really want to get into it, take out your entire interior (carpet and dash included) and remove the sound deadening. that would take alot of work, but it is all i can think of.

 

I think Flex-A-Lite makes a rear-window replacement, too. Might check in to that.

i did everything i can to my 4dr except the rear window and front carpeting...it ended up being pretty damn light....but wayyyyyy too noisy inside. everyone always told me to close my windows when i talk on the cell...even if the windows were already up h: oh well, my interior is back to stock

What's the point of making the car that much lighter? You're not going to be doing any serious motorsports, right? It's still a daily driver, might as well keep it reasonably civilized.

 

yes, but the thing is that I've noticed that even a few pounds makes a difference. Before my 12.5 lb wheels, I had some chrome wheels, and man, you can feel the difference !! With the chrome, it was like my car was being held down by a friggin ball and chain....then with the lighter wheels, the car was just way more responsive during acceleration and braking. I know wheels are a little different, because there are many factors at play (rotational mass, etc.), but I just figure that its a good way to reduce your e.t. , even if it is only by one to 2 tenths of a second .

 

By the way, do any of you guys know about how much the power steering and cruise control units weigh ? And doesn't the power steering also rob considerable power, or is the difference negligible ?
