You might check underneath the glove box where the valve for the heater is. If something is jammed in the way pull it out. I don't recommend trying to force the slider When my friends and I installed my subs, the guy wiring the battery stuck the power wire in the heater valve. I tried to force the slider and snapped the cable. No fun.

How did you replace this snapped cable? Do you have instructions on how to remove trhe ac/heater unit? Mine moves side to side but the temp is somewhere in the 70 (like in the middle settings)

yea, mine is kinda like that. my girl always like gets pissed and slams the temp to one saide and one day she broke it (i should have kicked her ass, lol) so now its very loose, i can only push it to be cold..to push it to the right ineed to stick a small screwdriver in there and push the sliding thing (that is inside the housing..not the lever) to the right..its annoying...how do you take the unit out?

for the actual arm i think you have to pop the rear defrost and the flasher buttons out and then there are a couple of screws going through it towards the ceiling. and it should pop out of clips. but on the slider, the cable should go through the fire wall and to a hot water valve in the engine compartment right under the intake, mine was pretty stiff to. i just did a motor swap and had the heater hoses off of course and now it's alot looser. for the better. i didn't mess with it though. go figure. you should be able to lubricate both cable ends with wd-40 or white lithium to help that prob. though

The cable does not go through the firewall. It connects to a switch under the glove box just to the right of the center console. When I removed mine I took the whole center console and radio out but I do not think you have to...although it was a little easier when putting the wire for the temp back to do so.

Let me just warn you taking out the HVAC controls is a 8itch and a 1/2. It took two of us to get the plugs out of the back...our hand were too big to get back there...one pressed the tabs while the other pulled the console!

well I look under and found what you talked about, to me it seems that the cable it fine, not snapped and the mechanism is fine just stiff. NOW HERE IS THE PROB. I'm thinking some clips that hold the cable sheath in place popped off, cuz when i move the slider the cable just gets pushed (not in and out but pushed like pushing it off to the side.) I just have to find out hoe to get back there and clip these back in. Any suggestions??

Yep - I broke mine a few months ago. It's a pain in the nuts to fix. Do you have the broken piece of plastic? Here is what I did. I used a hot knife to cut a slit in each side of the mounting bracket and ran a nylon wire tie though it. This securely wrapped around the top of the cable and pice of plastic which clamps that cable in. I superglued the whole assembly in place to make sure it didn't slide. This provided enough tension so that the cable doesn't move.

I know this description bites - I took some pictures and I can post them. I didn't take pictures of what it looked like afterwards, though. PM me for more info and I can help you out.

My problem is that I ran the cable in the wrong spot and it's overtensioned and the slider doesn't move. I need to climb under there and fix it.

Good luck, and like I said, PM me for more info on how to fix this.
