gsr or type-r tranny on ls motor?
i've seen this done before.
And the cars i've seen it done on are very fast.
Now i dont know how reliable it would be.
a shorter gear ratio for a low compression motor?
i mean. im really not sure.
People tell me it will definitely work.
But i dont know of any potential risks or problems this may cause?
i DO know the gsr and type r tranny's are made with shorter gear ratio's to be compatible with the power of a vtec type r or gsr motor. But im thinking "MAYBE" the tranny's made for the vtec motors are a little too powerful?
let me kno.
no flaming please.
i searched and couldn't find anything.
kindly send a link if this has been covered before.
if not. give me some info on whether or not this would be a good idea and how well this will work..
thanks

I concur with pomansouth. If you plan to go N/A than either tranny is good. I'd suggest the R tranny because of the shorter gears and the LSD. You'll get better acceleration and traction. BUt look to spend $1200 on a used USDM ITR tranny. GSR's go for about $650.

Top speed on usdm ITR tranny = about 110 mph at best. GSR about 125mph, make sure you know what your getting into, difference between fast and quick. I have a friend who has a gutted teg ls and an r tranny, from a roll I think he'd take me but we raced from 70 + and I just WALKED him. Like everyone said, decide what you want and go from there.

id say the GSR tranny is the best match for a naturally aspirated LS engine. the ITR tranny or B16 tranny makes the LS too strung out in my opinion...sure youll accelerate hard as heck, but then you max out just as quickly. the GSR tranny will provide much improved acceleration while still retaining some "cruisability."

The ITR can run shorter gearing than the LS because it has a wider RPM range to work with. I wouldn't bother with it on an LS for a couple reasons, price not being insignifigant either. I can think of better ways of making the car quicker.

i was thinking more on the Type R tranny, simply because of the LSD. I don't care much about highway or top speed, drift racing isn't too much my up of tea, im more into 0-60 and quarter mile times.
Now i have the ls motor.
What do you guys think about bolting on a b18c5 head and the type r tranny to match ..and of course my LS block with all new rebuilt internals sleeve and port work..then add a spray bottle? maybe? ha.. soooooooooper quick!
i was also thinking on going LS turbo with either a gsr or type r tranny. But you guys may be right about keeping the LS tranny considering the gsr or type r trans. might cause alot of overspooling and lag matched up with the motor setup i have.
or..
i could just throw a gsr or type R head on my motor..keep the tranny, rebuild the internals and turbo the **** out of it. run like 15lbs with a block guard.. but a turbo'd frankenstein conversion seems a little risky considering this WILL BE MY DAILY DRIVERR!!
arghh..
hha
what do you guys think i should do?
to sum my motor plan up...."very very quick, reliable daily drivable street beast"
haha.
let me know what you guys think i should do.
