Hello im trying to get info on oil pan intall. Do i need to put gasket sealent or gasket maker on gasket. I keep earing yes and no. Can anyone tell me what to do. someone said i need to put were the rear main seal is at and oil pump if this true how do i do this. and other people say to put gasket sealent can someone help.

 

Ive had mad trouble with the same and what ended out working for me was going to Honda, getting a gasket already pre molded and Honda bond. put on a thin layer of Honda bond, let it sit for about 8 min, then put the gasket and another layer of Honda bond.Make sure the surface from the block is clean if not it will leak, and then your going to have to repeat the same process all over.

 

Some H-Series don't use a rubber gasket.

Get a gasket, I reccomend either from Honda/Acura or a good brand like FelPro. Use form-gasket on a couple areas and you should be fine. I think the torque specs on the oil pan nuts/bolts is 8ft lbs.

I am doing the same thing - can we get Hondabond from the dealer? Will off the shelf stuff from the auto parts store work just as well?

 

HondaBond is from the dealer. Black RTV works also.

Anyways, Honda-Bond or Right Right is the way to go. Smear a little round the gasket. Problem solved.

 

honda bond works. and you also need the rubber gasket. when you take out the old honda bond gasket and the regular gasket, just copy where the honda bond gasket used to be. also i highly suggest to scrape off the old gasket very well before putting on the new one. i usually use a scraper and some brake parts cleaner. Must be clean for a good gasket seal that way you just do the job once.

 

I use a razor blade and rubbing alcohol on a CLEAN lint free rag for a good clean surface,

 

Find the OEM repair manual online somewhere (hondahookup), register so you can log in, download the repair manual. In the manual, page 7-28 lists locations you need to apply liquid gasket (Hondabond, RTV, whatever you choose to use), what order to tighten the bolts in, and torque settings. I can also email you the manual if you can't find it. I used the Haynes manual for years until I found the OEM shop repair manual, the OEM puts the Haynes to shame with information.
