Default Tach calibration?

Since I installed my white face gauges, my tach seems to be way off. I did not remove my needles and I did not put any pressure on the needles while I was installing the gauge faces (overlays). I checked to make sure the new white face was printed the same as the stock. Used to, when driving 80 MPH it would be at about 3900 RPM. Now, at 80 MPH, it is saying 2800 RPM. I didn't get into any wiring (other than the dash lights to run the glowing gauge faces). This just doesn't make sense to me. Nothing I did should have made any difference. (and I didn't change tire size, either)
Got any ideas? I'm stumped!
Thanks!!
