When I down shift from 3rd to 2nd while the ABS is working (example when I hit a patch of ice) my gear grinds. It doesnt grind any other time. Anybody know why and if there is something wrong with my car. I have a 1996 GSR

 

yes it is, as far as i know. i get the same thing if i downshift (going slow of course) when the abs kicks on. note to self though, dont shift when doing that.

I don't drive on a lot of icy roads...but i'd have to say the grinding of your gears shouldn't be happening.

 

its like if you shift and hit a bump, with all the icey bumps in ym driveway it happens

 

I know not to do it I was seeing if others had this, does anyone know why

 

I'm pretty sure that in all Honda B-series they have a common problem with the 3rd gear synchro which can make it grind gears when you shift..my friend just got a new gsr swap in his civic and his car grinds from 2nd to 3rd already. So it's no biggy :thumbup:
(To combat that nasty grinding you can try double-clutching for 2nd gear...my step-brother did that in his old Si cuz the gears were ****ty when he drove normally)

 

Mine grinds when down shifting during ABS activity too. It isn't the 3rd gear synchro problem and it doesn't affect the normal operation of the car, so it's not something that needs to be fixed. I believe it is acceptable and normal.
