Default Some Q's about the GS-R

First off, i wanna say whats up 2 everyone. Im in the middle of buying my first car, and Im stuck between a 94' / 95' GS-r, or a 98' Eclipse GS...Whichever one I get I will be doing A LOT of work to, my ultimate goal is to run low 12's or even 11's. Ok, so now my questions..ive noticed a lot of places such as www.sgpracing.com sellin' turbos for gsr's..but only for the 96'+ model years..is their something different about the 94/95's that Im not aware of? as far as i know they are the exactly the same up to 01'. Am I right about this? Secondly, money to performance ratio, which would give me a better bang for my buck, and which has more readily available/better parts, the gsr or the mitsu..Im thinkin the gsr but let me know, Im new to imports. And if someone can give me links to as many sites as they can think of that sell performance parts and give me a run down on which company makes the best parts (Greddy, HKS, Blitz, etc..) I'd greatly appreciate it.

Latas...

I would go with the GSR. The 94-95 had ODB1 and the 96+ had ODB2. There are turbo kits for all year GSR's. As for which is better to start with, I woiuld say the GSR. It has more hp to begin with than the Eclipse GS and is also lighter. If it was a GSX then I would say that has more potential because you can switch the turbos and have a 12 second car.

Wow man, a pretty ambitious post you've got here... No one is going to answer all the questions, and everyone's going to urge you to search. Welcome to the board I'm not stoned yet, let me give this a shot...

Eclipse GS, I don't see that as having too much potential. If you want low 12s, you better be thinking a turbo DSM. Eclipse GST is FWD and weighs less than the GSX that's all-wheel drive.

Is there any reason why you are thinking 94/95 GSR as opposed to a newer one? The GSR weighs less than an Eclipse, and the GSR motor (B18C1) has a LOT of potential. You're on a Honda-Acura forum, so don't expect too many people to be rooting for the Mitsu, especially a GS.

For parts, Honda-Acura.net has a lot of good sponsors, click the banners. There's also a For Sale/Trade forum to buy things from other users (also a feedback forum for purchases). No one company makes the best parts, it's a matter of what part you're looking at, and for what application.

I'd suggest using the search button and look for parts you're interested in being talked about on the forums, chances are, they all have been by now

Lastly, don't be afraid to ask questions, we're all here to learn and have a good time.

yeah the 94/95's are cheaper than the newer ones. But do you think I should go with a newer one? Would putting a turbo on a 80k mile car be THAT bad?

First off...welcome to the board. I'm a little biased...so I'm gonna say a GSR. Difference between the 94-95 and the 96-up is the emission controls. the earlier models have OBD1 and latter have the OBD2...the latter is a lil more strict when modifying since the engine is a lil more sensitive due to stricter emission systems.

As far as bang for the buck...I'd go with the GSR because there's a huge market out there for them, and the GSR motor (B18C1) has been proven to create mass amounts of power. 12's are doable on either car...it's really what route y ou want to go with and how much you have to spend. A turbo is great, depending on mileage, get a leakdown test, and I'd probably do a major service before installing it, as well as changing the belts. ( that's just being safe) Greddy, Rev-hard, Drag, are all good brands. Supercharger is another great system, Jackson racing is a proven manuf of them as well as Vortech. Another route is all motor, which costs more IMO but gains alot of respect, especially running 12's all motor. (that's DAMN good)

IMO, I like the interior of the GSR a lil bit more than the Mitsu and the body lines as well...it's up to you ultimately......good luck

yeah im partial 2 the gsr to..thats why im posting this here instead of on a mitsubishi forum. thanks for the info. how much power can the B18C1 handle before you need to mess with the bottom end? 300hp?

Yeah between a GSR and a Eclipse GS, I'd have to go with the GSR. Now if you were talking about a turbo Eclipse or GSR, I'd definitaly go with the Eclipse..........and thats what I did.

The Eclipses are nice cars...I am going to say the GSR...like the others because I am biased. As for the Eclipse GS there is a guy in my condo comples with one and his biggest complaint is the fact the motor in it is from Chrysler...and as he puts it, it is a piece of $hit. He is going to swap in a DSM motor from a GST before he does any performance mods to it. Just something to consider.

Welcome to the board.
