I switched from Honda MTF to Redline, and loved it. Shifts much smoother, and I used to have trouble getting into second sometimes.. not anymore.

when you say redline are you referring to redline mtl? i was always told that **** was way to heavy to feed your tranny.

Yes, Redline MTL. You were told wrong.

a 70W80 GL-4 gear oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity) designed for use in manual transmissions and transaxles. Provides excellent protection of gears and synchronizers and its balanced slipperiness provides a perfect coefficient of friction, allowing easier shifting.
Until honda made its own MTL, they recommended you use 10W30 motor oil in the tranny. Redline is fine.

Had Honda MTL in and switched to Mobil 1 10W30, no difference. Think I'm gonna try 10W40 or the Redline. My tranny is kinda notchy my buddies LS is supa smooth, he's using Syntec 10W30.

I wouldn't use a normal motor oil if you have the option, the newer Acura manuals specify to only use motor oil as a temporary sollution until you are able to obtain MTF.

You want the thinnest oil you can put in the tranny. Redline MTF is much thicker than the Honda MTF.

redline performs better then the honda mtf everything gets way smoother

quote by knowlegable guy michael delaney from team-integra.net

most uninformed people believe that 30 weight oil is good enough for your tranny. In the gen 2 tegs, if you look at the owner's manual, Honda recommends this.

In the gen 3 tegs, the owner's manual recommends Honda MTF and not 30 weight oil...hydro trannies need a little more protection.

The Redline 80 weight synthetic GL4 is a step up in protection from Honda MTF.

You probably talked to an old timer who is a little behind the times and has not kept up to date....it happens...not his fault..he was giving you the best info he knows.
