Ok i have a 94 GSR if your looking at the engine, there is a oil leak it looks like to rhe right of the header and i just put a new valve cover on and i noticed it kinda sprayed up on it, but it has alot of oil on the head that looks old to thr right of the header, does this sound like a headgasket? And if it is, should i get it fixed right away? And how much is it usually?

When you put the new valve cover on, did you put a new gasket on as well, or make sure the gasket was replaced properly?

If the oil looks like it is coming from where the valve cover is attached then you just need a new gasket. There's also a circular gasket on the side of the valve cover that may be the area of leakage (it's on the left though), it could be replaced as well.

Isn't that the cam seal? If that what your talking about the GSR shouldn't have that because of the vtec soleniod. I'm not sure about this so if someone could verify it.

i hear of gsrs having problems with the cam seal.

the head gasket is pretty cheap itself......compared to the labor charges...

are you sure you put the valve cover back on correctly?

if its to the right of the header, its not the cam seal.

and it sounds like your valve cover gasket is either worn out and/or not put on properly with the new valve cover itself. if you blew a headgasket, besides oil, you would probably see coolant too

Like newgsrdriver said did you replace the valve cover gasket when you changed valve covers? Also when you put it back together did you put silicone in the crack/corner where the flat surface of the head that the valve cover gasket sits and where the bearing cap for the cam rises? There should be 8 places that you should dab the silicone in the corner. Sorry if that doesn't make sense it's the best way I could describe it. Good luck on finding the oil leak if that's not the problem.

Yeah i put a new valve cover gasket on, and i know thats not it because, it was doing this before i got the new valve cover, the reason i said about the valve cover because its the red type r one and i was able to see oil hit it and i didnt notice it before because of the black valve cover"sorry"

And to clarify, i made a mistake i meant if your looking down on the engine its to the left of the header, if you were the engine it would be to the right of the header "sorry again"

Thanks for all the replys

Most likely your distributor side cam seal. Check that out....you should see caked oil surrounding it, but not above it.
