Buzzing noise when i start the car
#22
ABS or exhaust? What's this thread about? ABS really sounds like an electric pump, I wouldn't describe it as a rattle.
If you open the hood & have somebody listen while you start up the car, its pretty easy to tell where the noise is coming from. The location is very misleading for you sitting in the driver seat.
If its the exhaust, there's another possibility. My "A" pipe (from manifold to catalyst) made a rattling noise that sounded just like a loose heat shield. That piece is really a pipe-in-a-pipe, & the inner one was buzzing against the outer one.
That pipe cost so much that I used it as an excuse to get a DC header.

If it takes more than 40 seconds to pump up when you start the car the ABS controller stores a fault code & lights up the idiot light.
It also stores a code & turns on the light if it has to pump itself back up for no reason while you're driving.
Either way, all you gotta worry about is that the lamp is supposed to be on for a couple seconds while you start. The ABS is checking itself out, & you are paying attention (right?) in case the bulb is burned out. If the lamp doesn't stay on then its OK.
If the noise is actually your exhaust... never mind.

you can try adjasting the tension of it, or get a special belt drssing spray and just spry all over it, that works for me most of the time, it only does that when it's really cold, like you said onece in a while and than it just goes away

hey i have this problem too. before the noise would come on then my ABS light would go on. i filled the ABS resorvoir up and it fixed the problem for a while but now sometimes the light comes on while im driving. I noticed that my resorvoir has gone down and its sorta wet in that area of the engine compartment. I think i have a leak in my ABS system somewhere...

If the belt dressing doesn't work, then I'd be looking for a bearing that's starting to go. Use a foot of garden hose up to your ear to narrow down the location of the noise.
