Default 19mpg haha. -Now with Picts

My old post is down below, this is an update:

I checked the compression of the cylinders today, from cyl 1-4 I got 212-215-215-215.

So its not my compression at least. As other posts of mine said, I changed the fuel filter out, timing is stock still, valves are in spec, running NGK Plats (2k old). I took some picts of my plugs and cylinders.

When I get over 4400 there apparently is soot coming out of my exhaust, and it also happens when I downshift. The exhaust pipe is pretty dirty with soot on the inside, and my spark plugs had some soot on the edge of the threads as can see in the picts. The piston head has a some speckled spots on it which look like carbon but I think its pretty normal.

So where is my gas mileage at? I'm at 22mpg right now.

)LD POST:----
Drove down to LA last weekend, average speed was 80mph but that includes all the 2 hours it took to get to hwy 5 from where I'm at.. Anyway, 19MPG driving down there, and on the way back up I got 25mpg going

I'm in a 95 GSR, changed the air filter, new plugs, stock timing, 5w-30 synthetic

I have NEVER changed the fuel filter, the rotor or the cap, I once had to replace an ignition coil but thats about it. Have never ran an injection cleaner either. I did do a valve adjustment 20k ago and I will do another one if someone can post up the measurments for a 95 GSR (I lost my helms)

I'd really like to get back my 28 mpg you know? Thanks for the help.

also, have not replaced injectors, cat or checked oxy sensors

Your mileage is a direct result of your speed. Drive at 60-80 mph and you'll get 28 mpg or thereabouts.

Doing 120 on the highway :nono:

i got 33 mpg driving from LA to bay area going 80-85 mph the whole way with the a/c on and my car was completely filled with my sister's crap. made it back on one tank and the gas light barely went on.

changing fuel filter, cap and rotor, and running some fuel injector cleaner sounds like a good idea. tire pressure and weight also affect fuel efficiency.

Cruising at high speed with low throttle angles doesn't eat gas. But if you have a range of 80 to 100 mph that's a lot of accelerating which'll kill the mileage.

I understand highspeed driving will kill the mileage but in my records of MPG i used to get 27mpg to a tank and I still drove crazy.

That 33mpg from LA to the bay area sounds where I should be.

i got like 20 mpg going santa cruz to LA via I5 at 100 for 3 hours straight.
But i was also in between 90-110 most of the time because I'd slow down when my radar detector went off a couple times and id punch it to pass a lot of cars.

Wow, it must feel really sluggish right now.

I actually got 15 mpg on one occasion. Track days will eat your fuel like none other.
