i did do a search for this and couldnt find what i was looking for.
my question: how long do timing belts usually last?
i have 86,000 miles on my car and i know your suposed to change it every 90k, but i dont have the money for it and probaly wont for a good while.
im worried cuz, i swear my car hates me or something, i have problem after problem and i just know its gunna brake on me.
when did you high milage guys change your timing belt?, and what was it's condition when you did?

I think the manual says 105K for the G-3 teg. I changed mine at 90, along with the water pump and seals. All were in good shape, or they appeared to be, and I wring the thing out most every day, see VTEC pretty much every day. If it fails, your engine is toast, don't skimp on maintainence, ever.

It's reccomended for replacement as part of the 90k mile service. The water pump only needs to be "inspected" but since you have the belt off anyway it's good to get the pump done too.

MSRP on parts (you have a GSR right?):

Timing belt - $62.20
Tensioner - $62.44
Assorted bolts and such - ~$10 to $15
Water pump - $106.57
Thermostat - $14.62

Figure 4-6 hours of labor.

say what? Maybe if you've done it many times. It took me the better part of a few days. Probably around 8 hours total.

I have about 75K miles on my car and am also looking to get everything changed out as well. Most of the mechanics I've spoken to are telling me that the tensioner should still be good and doesnt need to be changed out at this point. What do you guys think? Should I just have it replaced anyways since everything is off or save a couple bucks? Thanks
