What would I have to do to put the type R exhaust on my 1999 GSR? I know I would need the muffler but would I need the B pipe or get a custom one made?

 

if you want, you can just bolt up the muffler and axle back to your stock GSR piping, but it might sit an inch or two short under the bumper.

or you can just get the ITR piping along with the muffler and have it fit your 99 GSR at a local muffler shop.

 

why do you want the type r exhaust. for all the trouble i would get an aftermarket one. does the type r give that much more power or do you just like the look/sound

 

I was under the impression that it was only the 94-97 gsr's whose exhausts fit different from the rs/ls and Type R. I think you may be able to just straight transfer the whole thing. I have a Type R cat and my cat back came off a Type-R, everything fit perfectly. So don't go simply on my word but like I said I think it's only the earlier gsr's that had different exhaust fitment.

 

For a '94-'99 GS-R you will need to have the Type-R B-pipe extended by 4.5". The reason why, is because the '94-'99 GS-R uses a short cat. Here is a picture of my lengthened Type-R B-pipe.

BTW, I had a 2.5" exhaust flange installed for a future JDM 4-1 header and a 2.5" hi-flow cat.

 

I had the Type-R muffler mounted to my stock B-pipe for about a 6 weeks and I notice an improvement in acceleration above 5,500 rpm and I only slightly deeper exhaust tone.

About 2 months ago, I had the Type-R B-pipe lengthened and installed and the improvement is very noticeable and above 5,500 rpms the car really pulls hard (more so than above). The tone is just slightly louder than the stock B-pipe and Type-R muffler.

I have been extremely pleased with the performance of the Type-R cat-back exhaust and I also like the sound of the exhaust. The sound is only slightly louder and deeper than stock (which is nice and it doesn't attract a lot of attention).

I chose the Type-R exhaust for a couple of reasons:
1) OE fit and finish
2) Cost
3) OE looks (ie. sleeper)
4) Lifetime warranty (only on the muffler since I modified the B-pipe)
5) Sound (or the lack there of, when compared to other exhaust)


I highly recommend the Type-R cat-back exhaust .

 

hey BSQ, does the same apply for fitting it to a 94 LS (2dr). is the ITR piping 2.37"? cause im running 2.25" right now, so id probably have to go w/ the full ITR cat back right? thanks

 

Did you purchase from the stealer? How much did you pay, if you don't mind my asking?

 

The Type-R exhaust is a direct bolt-on for all '94-'01 Integras (all models), except for the '94-'99 GS-R.


The Type-R cat-back exhaust is 57.2mm (2.25") mandrel bent piping [an increase of +6.4mm~8.6mm over stock] throughout to increase air flow. The muffler is a multi-chamber design, and does a wonderful job of dissipating sound. However, the funnel-shaped piping in-between the chambers makes it a very free-flowing exhaust. Furthermore, in order to lighten/strengthen the parts, stainless steel was used.

 

The B-pipe (part #18220-ST7-R60) has a dealer list price of $206.02 and the muffler (part #18030-ST7-Z61) has a list price of $241.67. I would recommend checking out www.acuraautomotiveparts.net . The B-pipe is $164.81 and the muffler is $193.33 . I actually know someone that works at an Acura dealership and I got the B-pipe and muffler for about $300.
