How does one know VTEC kicks in?

errr audible change from your engine
if its a gsr, and all the correct factors come into play it changes over at 4400 for the first stage the 5700 for 2nd stage

its 4450 for first stage and 5800 for second stage!!!!

do a search...and you will find that 4400 is when vtec engages and 5750 is when the secondary intake runners open.

if its dohc, you should be able to tell quite easily if your intake or exhaust isn't drowning it out...

When you're racing the mustang next to you and he's beating you, then all of a sudden your car "kicks in" and you smoke him, that was when vtech kicked in

But yeah, what these guys said. If I'm not mistaken the type-R doesn't have this 2-stage "vtec engagement", so it pulls much harder at the crossover point.

yeah the gsr is the only one, i think maybe the new v6 accords, have 2 stage manifolds though

Yea, it's at 5700 for me. It goes from loud to obnoxious, and I love it. :naughty:

It pulls a good amount harder.
