A b18b is a perfectly good engine to turbocharge (some people even prefer it over the b18c). I think this topic has been covered before; I'm sure if you do a search you can find info on this. A lot of LS/GS owners on this board have turboed their tegs and will give you plenty of reasons for choosing the b18b over the b18c. Just don't supercharge it or go all-motor.

thinking theres more of a risk in the long run to blowing the engine. then to have a all motor gsr.. depending how long he wants it for, when u try to get rid of a car that has a aftermarket turbo, not many people want it, because its common sense that its been abused..

With all-motor you're going to be running well north of 6000 rpm, and depending on the cams you may even see 9000+ rpm. Either way, all-motor or turbocharged, the engine will be taking a beating. Going all-motor requires the same level of attention as going turbo. If he does it right, reliability can generally be achieved either way.
I basically don't see why he should swap out a perfectly competent engine. Spend $3-5 grand on a turbo kit and he'll be much faster than if he decided to swap in a gsr engine for the equivalent cost.
