My buddy did the install himself...I'm curious as to how much it would cost for a shop to fabricate some sort of system.

People always stare when he starts the car from a mile away, walks in, and drives off h: James bond style y0!

I am sure its not hard to modify a remote starter to not work if your cars in gear. Maybe set up some kind of switch that only give the starter power when your not in gear. I wonder if anyone here has set a a safe way to install a remote starter in their manual.

is it bad to leave the car in neutral and pull the parking brake when parked during winter? Sometimes it gets close to 0 and even below here in Chicago.

I installed mine on my car and my car is a manual. It can only start when I have the clutch pressed down. You know, like when you are actually starting the car.

Of course you can't remote start it from the house, but I use it to warm up my car without leaving my keys in there.

I wake up and go to my car. Sit in the driver seat, press down the clutch, put the gear into neutral, pull parking brake, and the start it. I then let the car idle and go back into the house.

Yeah, it's like going out and using your key. But in my case, I don't have to worry about someone driving off with my car with a smashed window and my key. If someone gets into the car, and press the brakes, the engine shuts off.

That's what I use it for.

And yes, it's back to leave your car park in neutral and pull the parking brakes. If you leave it over night, the brake lines can get frozen and when you decide to push it down so you can drive to work, the cable will brake, causing you to replace it.

Simply wait 30 seconds, the fast idle is to help warm up the engine faster. The computer creates a richer mix and when u drive it, it injectes more fuel and your car warms up faster.

It is not a something that people make up. Look in your car manual, it say you do not need to warm up your car. Even if it is not FI.

A remote starter cost around $140 or 65 pounds. Goto your local department auto store and go get these two things: Block heater-$35, and a car warmer(I don't remember the name but it plugs into ur 12v outlet and provides instant heat for u)-$15.

NEVER USE A CAR STARTER!!! NEVER WARM UR CAR UP!!
My freind was ran over by a remote starter wit a "safety" switch. Only a technician should install it. I know someone who airbags went off when he used his remote starter.LOL!!

on the remote start for manuals... most of them what is needed is an extra switch that forces the car into neutral when you push the remote start but it is not needed tho adviseable so your car dosent take off and go through a fence without you watching. on the car warming issue mines and automatic and i need to let it warm for at least 2 min so of all things the tranny fluid can warm up otherwise its a nice jar into reverse first thing... oh well time for an aftermarket tranny computer, anyone beside level 10 make those?

very bad idea unless you have a diesel--and word to the wise block heaters are illegal in most states --because they have the tendency to overheat and set the car on fire. and the car warmer is only intended to be used while the car is being operated (read: heater core not working and someone can switch the heater off if it tips over)

the best thing you can do is by a battery maintainer with floatmode monitoring, this will keep the battery slightly above air temp and won't let the battery drain on its own overnight. hide the maintaner under the hood so that just the 110vac plug can be easily gotten to. connect it every night that it drops below freezing. also keep your gastank full. let your car idle for a good 5-10 mins before driving off.

as far as using the parking brake, just pull it up once or 2 clicks--not tight but just enough to keep the car from rolling and you should be fine
