Need to pass emissions...
well like i stated i gotta pass, i failed already once with my setup and cant fail again, its also gotta be taken within the next three weeks...heres my setup, 94 GSR, DC 4-1 header, testpipe (theres the problem) and Apex WS exhaust, now i know the testpipe is the main problem but the question is this, i wanna get rid of the testpipe anyway cause of the raspy exhaust tone, BUT, if i get, lets say, a carsound HF cat for my car, can i count on passing with that, or am i gonna be stuck with the same problem, i dont wanna waste the 200 and be biffed again...thanx in advance
BTW, i gutted the old cat then threw it away, so no i cant put that one back on, otherwise i already wouldve

Its supposed to be illegal to sell a used cat so most junk yards wont do it for cheap anyways. The carsound cat is a good idea and you wont have to worry about it in the future. Its damn near impossible to find a hook up shop in San diego now, not sure how it is everywhere else. I tried and tried but just ended up pulling my turbo kit. What a PITA.

Carsound cat (and most hi-flo cats) SHOULD pass emissions. I asked Comptech about why their hi-flo cats were illegal for road use, and they stated that while their cats did indeed pass smog, it was illegal under CA law to change out your cat for anything but a stock replacement.

thanx for the help guys, im definetly gonna go with carsound, whether its right away for the test i dunno; im kinda tight on cash, my moms got a 96 SE, maybe ill gank her cat for a lil bit, unless hers dont fit for some reason ...but yea ill try a junk yard too, i dunno if they will sell it to me around here or not, but ill try...thanx again

Are you stupid or something? Why did you even take the test w/ the testpipe. Thats throwing money out the window. Mine recently failed too. Ruined O2 sensor has killed my whole emissions system. Im getting new carsound cat, wires and plugs, new o2 sensor, valve adjustment, timing checked, and FPR to lean it out. I know thats overboard but I need to tune it up anyways.

actually tardo i took the test with a gutted cat , so yea basically same thing, i figured; test is free and all so why not try to make sure i dont hafta blow some more money, but sure enough i do...anyway i also need a new O2 to go with it, my car doesnt run right at all since the test pipe install when we were messin with the O2 to get it in the bung...thats what she said :naughty:

Yeah. Your lack of a catalytic convertor is really screwing you up.
The catback exhaust has no smog implications what so ever; thats why they dont issue CARB numbers for them -- because they don't effect your exhaust, only sound tone.
But, without a cat it's gonna fail everytime.
Get a cat, put it on -- go pay $25 and have it *tested* at a different shop and then if it passes have them print out the receipt for it and you're done.
