Default 92 GSR leaking Power Steering pump

I just bought a 92 Integra GSR (B17A) that I am delighted with. I am noticing a driver side leak that I am positve is from the PS pump. It is slinging fluid and I am pretty sure it must be a shaft seal behind the pulley.

Pulling the pump doesn't look too scary, pulling the pulley might be the toughest part. Is replacing the pump the best way to go, or is replacing the seal possible?

welcome to HAN.

either way, you're going to have to pull the pump out of the car, so you might as well try to see if you can get to the seal itself.

the problem lies with that there may not be a servicable seal available for purchase, but i could totally be wrong as i've never had to service a PS pump on a b17a

Thanks for the welcome Spec R... You are right, I might as well bite the bullet and yank the pump. I've got an old pickup I can fall back on to drive in the meanwhile.

i would first find out if there's a difference between the b17 ps pump and any of the other ps pumps from other 90-93 integras, including the b16 jdm ps pump.

Mission accomplished! After several phone calls and two parts stores later, I finally got a replacement pump yesterday. The first supplier had the incorrect one for my engine. After finally snagging the right one, I got it installed lastnight. It wasn't too hateful of a job, the bottom bolt was the biggest pain.

In pondering on why it was leaking, I am thinking either the 154K miles got to it, or someone has put non Honda fluid in the system. The shaft seal was the source of the leak. Anyway, I put genuine Honda fluid back in. I worked out and drained as much of the old fluid as I could. I plan to flush out more, in case wrong fluid was the cause of the leak.

Everything went well and I am back on the road. Thanks for the input. BTW, jesusublime99, thank you for the link to the seal kit, but because of all the miles on the car, and not knowing the condition of the bearings, I decided to go with pump. The seal kit was tempting though.

Now, the next minor leak to attend to is that engine oil leak... which I think is from the black cap at the end of the cam.

yeah the leaking cam seal is a very common problem with the vtack heads. should be an easy fix, just make sure you get a new valve cover gasket kit.
