but even if the injectors look fine, I would recommend people use an injector cleaner (whether it be seafoam/lucas/etc.) in their gas once in a while. Having carbon build-up on the exhaust valves can have a huge impact on mileage if it's enough to allow considerable blow-by - not only letting unburnt fuel vent past them before ignition, but allowing some of the explosive force of combustion to vent past the valves instead of forcing the piston down.
If you use good-quality gas and you car uses no oil, or only a very small amount, you wouldn't have to use it very often at all. If you do burn oil though, it's a must.
I've found the more traditional concentrated injector cleaning products seem to do a better job of improving mileage/performance on an engine that's already got considerable build-up. Compared to something like Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube that is, which also cleans the various surfaces, but seems like it might do a better job of keeping things clean than removing large amounts of carbon unless you seriously up the dosage.
Seafoam (in the gas tank is the only place I've ever put it) is probably the best of both worlds. I've used it in the past w/ good results but it's cheaper for me to just use $1 concentrated injector cleaner followed by regular, small amounts of Lucas to keep things clean (and lubed).
