It's a horrid idea.

I for one like to have breathable air. While you'll pick up a whopping 2 hp, you'll also turn a clean, decently quick car into a gross polluter.

It will stink and prepare to get headaches while in traffic if your windows are open. Your exhaust tone will also be raspier.

I have no problems at all with my test pipe. No smell, no headaches. I have a JDM ITR in a 93 delsol. Although this is only a weekend car/racer. I have no header at this time, test-pipe, 2.5 all the way back to a 2.25 inlet suppertrap.
I have neted 7hp with this set up.

Unless your engine runs on hydrogen, you're going to have an odor, period.

the stock cat is not a very big restriction unless it's really clogged or the engine is moving lots of air.
