to import an RSX-R...
Anyone have any information on how to go about doing this? I'm really interested in seeing exactly how impossible it might be, and how costly. TIA!

You might be able to wade through all the paperwork to bring the car over, but you're not going to pass or be able convert to U.S. safety, bumper or emissions standards.

DC294GSR, thanks a ton bro. Those are some hefty links with some damn good information. I _will_ make this happen!! Someone else has already, importing the car chassis/etc. separately from the engine as freight. Pretty smart...
kabob, do you know any of the specifics about the safety/bumper standards which this car doesn't meet? I figured since the chassis is basically (if not 100%) the same as the RSX here in the US, that the underlying safety "cage" and supports and crash-zones would be the same as well. Am I off here?
Also, anyone know about the differences in glass? Is it different in Japan (i.e. not safety glass)?

If it was a standard RSX, then I'd agree with you, but the Type R takes quite a few things off for weight savings and I wouldn't be surprised if they took off something the U.S. deems law that the Japanese don't. Then you have to look at how much passing emission will degrade your performance...
Sorry to be a killjoy, but someone's gotta play Devil's advocate

kabob, good points. No worries, I know there are a lot of possible problems that will crop up as I go through the process. I'm going to be getting in touch with a lot of local japanese importers here in NY so hopefully they'll also have some more info. This _is_ definitely possible, even if it means welding on a few new parts or reconfiguring the way some of the support structures work, replacing glass, etc. The truth is that it'll probably be only a few more bucks than a fully-loaded RSX-S here in the US ($26.5k or thereabouts). As I find out more I'll post it back here. Brick wall or not I'm comin through.

(note: for japenese car import compliance, they must be represented by a 2 and a 3 at the minimum)
Where abouts are you in NY? PM me if you wanna take this off the record of course.
