Default Just Bought 95 LS Should I go Springs or Coilovers

Im in the teg club now. I plan on doing an LS Vtec setup, but first i want wheels tires and good suspension. I am not sure if it is necesary to get coilovers because I imagine that if you wanted to adjust them for different situations that you would have to realign and set up the camber, in which a shop can really only do. I am still learning, but If I get good skunk2 springs and a set of quality shocks, wouldnt that give me the same handling im looking for, without paying so much extra for coilovers?

In order to increase handeling ability, you will need koni or some other shock thats adjustable. Spring rates are more of a factor than brand name. Eibach will give you just about any rate your looking for. A Camber kit is required for proper alignment. If you go with coilovers, an alignment should be done after you decide on where to set them.

What size wheels are you getting?

I've heard that the skunk2 springs are pretty stiff compared to a lot of other brands. A lot of people go with the KYB AGX shocks and the spring of their choice, probebly H&R or Tein.

I plan on getting 17" rims. Would I get the same performance with lets say lowering 1.6" with springs and kyb shocks as I would with a nice coilover kit.

The car actually came with coilover suspension that wasnt installed, but I dont know what brand they are. I will post pics as soon as i take them, if anybody might have an idea what they are. They have GSM or GSW written on the springs, but I cant really tell because they have been kind of scraped. I am pretty sure i am not going to roll with these unless somebody recognizes them and tells me they are really nice.

Go with 15 or 16s, you're going to sacrifice ride quality with the 17s and increase the likelyhood of you bending the rim over a pothole. Not saying that would never happen with the sizes that I mentioned, but it won't be as likely as the 17s would.

Coilovers aren't just about ride height adjustment. They usually provide stiffer linear spring rates than springs do. A good set of coilovers will outperform a good set of springs.

What is your budget?

If you're spending a grand on both suspension and rims all together, then you're not really getting much.

I have just about 1100 into my suspension alone.

:werd:

Buying both good rims and good suspension components for $1k isn't going to happen. I would suggest to save up more money if you want both.
