Default ECT Sensor

I'm getting a code 6 on my 95 gsr. Its the Engine coolant temp. sensor. First of all where is the sensor located? I've also noticed my temp gauge is not working, probably due to this. Could this cause the motor to overhead? And how do I fix it? Thanx a lot

I'm throwing the same code...have been for a while now actually. I've been to lazy to replace it. I should probably do that. h: I know it's somewhere on the side of the head, but I'm not 100% sure as to which sensor it is. If someone could post a diagram or picture, that'd be great.

Also, I wouldn't think your CEL for your ECT sensor would be causing the temp gauge not to work, but maybe. A temp gauge not working may be a sign of a thermostat issue.

Hmm, maybe its just my cluster thats bad, I replace the temp gauge because the needle broke into it... with a whole new temp unit that should have been good. Would the ECT sensor or thermostat cause the car to overheat? How can I know this if my gauge won't tell me ?

A closed thermostat is often the cause of overheating. In my car, you can always tell when it's starting to overheat because it will become sluggish/unresponsive and the rpm's will become higher than usual and stick there at idle.
