PCV and crankscase ?'s
I have a 92 gsr and I have a built jdm b16 9:1 comp, 450's, eagle rods, t3/t4 turbo. I have alot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I am new to turbo hondas but not to turbos so here is my question. I have oil on my pistons but great compression so could the stock crankcase black box be causing pressure to build in the block and have the oil pass the rings and come out as smoke? I have searched and have found threads that say to disconnect the pcv and put on a breather. Others say to get some kind of moroso oil catch can and replace the black box with it. What do you guys think and how can I get these parts. The engine has less that 2 miles on it but some idle time. Not much though. Any thoughts would be awsome? Thanks guys!

-huh?
Are you getting white smoke only under throttle or are you smoking at idle? If your smoking at idle... then something is wrong (possible getting blow by).
"great compression."
So i assume you did a compression test... but if not, do that and lets hear the numbers.
The pcv valve closes under boost causing pressure in the crankcase, eventually leading to cracked ringlands (as i'm sure you've read). But your pcv systems vents the crankshaft fumes... so like the other thread started by Mr. schmoo... he made a catch can which solves both problems.

Thanks guys. I did a compression test and with 9:1comp pistons and not much drive time on the car I have 170,175,175,168 and I have not driven the car out of the drive way. I will take alook but I think that I have a catch can because the guy that I bought the car from already had it turboed but the catch can was disconnected. I did not think anything of it till I rebuilt it

I have done a leak down and I am good on it. I have noticed that I do have catch can(aftermarket) that is not hooked up. I assume it was because the guy that previously owned it took the pre turbo pipe off and just put the filter on the turbo. I have a injen short ram that is just sitting around that I am going to use for the return from the catch can by putting it on the turbo so that the vapors get sucked in.

so i ventilated the crankcase with a hose to the catch can and then into the pre turbo air intake . Its is still smoking. Could the crankcase breather itself be gummed up or can it be the oil pump stopped up from the pick up. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks

You should ditch the oem breather box. I would imagine running the hose to the pre-turbo intake contaminates the intake charge but it's more emissions friendly. Like stated earlier, if you're running a PCV valve it closes under boost. Make sure your oil return line is set up correctly.
Take a look at this thread on honda-tech, it's a good one.

My friend installed the greddy turbo kit on his d series hatch and it smoked like a crack house.

so let me get this right I need to ditch the stock breather and get the plugs from honda and then either run a breather or catch can. I am smoking like crap as soon as I hit the gas this thick cloud comes out that smells like gas and oil. Ok so I assume that honda does not have this parts usually in stock so is there any other options or just suck it up an wait. Where I live there is no emissions so I am not worried about that. I just want to get this right this time and I really appreciate all of you help.
