i was driving my 96 integra down the highway and my engine died. a few people a i spoke to suggested it may be a problem with timing chain. i really don't know much about cars anybody with some info in this area would be greatly appreciated.

 

1) The Integra does not use a timing chain. It uses a timing belt.
2) The belt should be replaced along with the tensioner and water pump every 95,000 miles or every 6 years, whichever comes first.

If the OEM belt is still on the motor, it should have been replaced in 2002 or 2003 at the latest.

Beyond that, I need to know what happened when you tried to restart the car... h:

 

I would call on that. My 99 is due for a change at 105k. His might be different, not sure why though...

alright guys had plenty of gas first off =P i was doing about 70 down th e highway, my rpms just dropped, lights and everything were working tried restarting the car it was turning but the car would not start. i then had problems with the battery which i thought was the cause of the problem so had the battery replaced...once again lights and everything worked but still would not start

 

btw i just bought the car and had on the road for about 2 weeks the previous owner told me the car was well kept and i haven't had any other problems. the car has about 130,000 miles, i spoke with the previos owner and he said he has never replaced the timing belt. he sold the car to me for a decent price at 1,200. would it be worth the money to fix? this is my first car and other than this have really been enjoying it

if you have the money, i would get it fixed.. although make sure it is the timing belt.. are there any CEL lights??

 

got the car to the shop it was definitely the timing belt...bummer anyway the guy says theyll just replace the belt and time the engine for $400 and hope it works or what i really should do is send the head out to a machine shop get it repaired and replace a lot of other stuff while they're at it which i really don't have the money for...
