got the car to the shop it was definitely the timing belt...bummer anyway the guy says theyll just replace the belt and time the engine for $400 and hope it works or what i really should do is send the head out to a machine shop get it repaired and replace a lot of other stuff while they're at it which i really don't have the money for...

holy #@$% a shop charging only $400 to do a timing belt replace...that's not much at all.
definitely have someone remove the head and inspect everything for signs of damage, because when the timing belt snaps, it's possible for there to be some bent valves, possibly other stuff.
