Default steering wheel not strait

hello,

The steering wheel on my 96 LS is not strait - it holds little on the left direction when driving strait on the road. Could anyone one tell me how to fix this?

thanks

You need to take the car to an alignment shop. It sounds like the wheel was not put back to center the last time it was done. Chances are the car may need an alignment anyway.

you can do this yourself, it's not hard...

make sure your car is parked on a flat spot... align the wheels so they are pointing straight where you want them to be at...

take all of the plastic shrouding off of your steering column...

remove the 4 bolts in the back/side of the steering wheel i think they are star drive...

take off the airbag and carefully disconnect the airbag connector... ignore the airbag warning tag... lol

take off the big bolt in the center of the steering wheel, i believe it's 17mm...

carefully pull the wheel off of the spline without moving the wheels...

put the steering wheel back on how you want it (straight)...

put everything back together...

note: if you want to be extra cautious, disconnect your battery cuz if the airbag connector happens to short, it will blow up in your face... this is like 1 in a million but it's up to you...

Or, just have it aligned again. Whoever aligned it last time did not do it correctly and readjusting the tie rods will fix it. The above will likely work, but you have to ensure that the wheels are perfectly straight and it's really trial and error. hih

This might work but not likely. When un doing the steering column nut, the wheels are gonna move slightly and that is all it takes to fuck that up. Furthermore, the degrees of the spline drive and the wheel insert drive cannot always be centered. It will look a little to the left a little to the right...hmmm, shit WTF? Then when you think you have it, you go for a drive and the shit still isn;t straight.
