my uncle is not new to the turbo scene by all means man, i would like to stick to the Apex'I AFCII that i currently have in my car, all of the missing pieces i have my mechanic who works at LPS Autoworks here in st.louis, he knows a lot more than me man, he will help me with the other lil things here and there, but wont be doing any of the initial installing that my uncle will do, i will buy the kit, save some more money and get the remaining pieces, i will start saving after september, need to get settled down in school first, it aint cheap man, after 1st semester is over then i will start saving, i know for sure that i can save up about a $1000 a month, hoping to get around $5000 in total before july, would like to have it in the summer....

 

a vafc isnt gonna cut it for long with boost. you need something programmable so you dont blow something up.

 

what do you suggest, why is the AFC not good for boosting, what kind of program is better at the same price or close to.

YOu need a stand alone, like crome, hondata, AEM EMS, Neptune... which have a hella of a lot more adjustablity....


DaGip Plz, start doing some reasearch instead of shooting out dumb things like you have been, its great your uncle can help you but don't YOU want to know what the hell is going on? u have a while till you save the money you need and by the way 3k ain't going to cut it, with the WHP goal you want..

SO Start reading and reaserching, becasue of now you should not even think of turboing with the misinformation you have..

no offense taken man, i know that i would need an stand alone, i just asked to why the Apex AFC would not be good, my friend has the Greedy Emanage Ultimate, but ive heard that a lot of people dont like the greedy system, is the hondata the way to go, and what are some of its benifits, tunning wise i mean, all i know is that its a lot cheaper than the AEM stand alone. also the 3k is just for the kit, i will have more than 3k, like i said im looking to spend all together about 5K in parts, labor would be free, FMIC,the Hondata which i guess i should get,Upgraded fuel pump,thicker head gasket,ARP head studs, and also looking into getting all the fuel,turbo lines steel braided, have a guy here in st.louis that sells em $6 a foot. and any other parts i might need for safe boosting. any part recomendations would be appreciated man.

 

Start with http://www.pgmfi.org/ and read, read, read until you have no more questions about tunning. Then get back on here and search for "Tunning XXX" (XXX being whatever method you decide to use) The VAFC or EManage, or any other piggy back unit only tricks the stock ECU into giving your car more fuel. You want complete control over your engine if you plan on going F.I.

 

also if you are building the motor u don't need a thicker gasket, people do that to drop there compression, which again is chezzy way of doing things

 

would it be bad, or does it really matter, im trying to do it for safety reasons cause ive seen my friends civic blow 2 headgaskest in the last 3years only running about 8psi. should i just go with an OE metal replacement one then or what.

 

OEM only. A thicker gasket will not reduce the risk of it cracking. Use ARP head studs, and torque them exactally to spec, and in the same patern helms lists.

 

yeah the ARP studs are a no brainer, what other precautions can i take, any type of special brackets,was thinking of geeting all the turbo & fuel lines steel braided, want it to be as safe as possible, cant risk blowing my motor since this is my DD. what do you think.
