Default Dead CAT

I am going to do my emission here soon,(because I am a moron and forgot to get my car registered earlier), but that I am going to fail because the person that I bought the car from had put a new cat-converter on that I would imagaine either doesn't match my Acura model or is just to low grade for the CPU to recognize.

When I dealt with this last year the mechanics said it was an o2 sensor that was out, but I think they were just jacking me. They put the new o2 sensor in and the CAT working below average efficency.

Does anyone know if there is an easy/cheap fix for this. I have heard that Acura cats are like 600+ and god knows I don't want to drop that wad of cash if I can get a good aftermarket one for hella cheaper. But I do understand if you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the time.

o2 sensors can throw a code for catalyist efficency below threshold (is that what your throwing).

you can get universal cats from autozone, carquest, advance etc etc for about $75-100. You will just have to weld it in then or use clamps. At my work when a car has a bad cat hardly ever do we replace it with OEM. Why bother when you can get a universal, weld it in and save the customer 200-400$ and perform the same?

Yeah, I guess. They just said that the computer was showing that it wasn't getting rid of all the emission correctly.

This sets off my check egine light and over time I think it turned on the "requires matainence" light too. I just need it to pass emission and hopefully get these friggin lights to go off.

I will check out in universal converters. Thanks for the help.

Do universal cats really perform the same - at least on a stock integra?

Do new cats make a big difference in lowering emissions??

i just put on a direct fit cat that i got from advanced for $120 and passed emissions like it was new - fast pass only ran for 20 seconds on the dyno

the direct fit bolts up just like a factory cat except its alot cheaper it is not a clamp/weld type cat it bolts right up

Advanced Auto Parts, I'd guess. Similar to Auto Zone or Checker.
