'89 Teg RS Engine issues
New to the forum, but not to cars.
Picked up my teg several years ago with like 100k miles on it, now have about 162k.
Unfortunatly, I had a connecting rod cap screw back out, so needless to say, engine problems.
I've got the engine out, and basically torn down, but have run in to a couple problems.
1) What have people used to get the valve springs out? I've rented and bought 2 different tools, neither work.
2) How do I get the crank pulley off? I know the Haynes/Chilton manuals say there supposed to be torqued to like 83 ft/lbs, and someone here has said 175 ft/lbs. Well my Impact won't back it off, neither will a 2 ft extension on the 3/8 ratchet (which broke in the process).
Any help would be appreciated. Also, any good sources for parts, rebuild kits etc... There seems to be alot of info on the 90 and newer tegs, much less for the gen 1 stuff. Thanks

and as far as the crank bolt... i've only dealt with it once and what i did was drive down to the acura dealership... go to service and beg, plead, and whine to get a way to borrow their crank pulley holder... it's an amazing tool, and it will allow you to back off the bolt (but don't lose the key in the process)... you would need AT LEAST a 1/2, maybe even a 3/4 drive if your just going to do it with a little brute force

I was originally using a 1/2" by 18" long breaker bar trying to back the bolt out. Also tried a 1/2" impact, nothing. That's when I switched to the 3/8" with the 2 ft extension since that's what the pipe fit over. I'll keep working at it, maybe try some PB on the bolt, and brute force it again. No Acura dealer close, plus every time I've tried calling, all I get is "well you'll have to bring it in" or some other BS.
Any thoughts/advice on the tool to use to get the valve springs out? So far nothing I've rented/bought has worked.
Thanks
