Default Car hesitated to start today..

So my car (96 LS) hesitated to start today, it would kind of start and have a real low idle and die. I gave it some gas and it started and idled at like 1500 on its own, I felt confident everything was OK, so I drove off. Drove the car for about a half hour, started up fine about 3 other times, no gas pedal needed. Now my question is, the car did sit for about a week, but this shouldn't cause anything fuel related would it? (Guess fuel since I had to give it gas) I thought maybe IAC but it idled fine, I just bought the car and it looks like it has the original fuel filter so I might go ahead and replace that.

I think the battery just had a low charge from the car sitting and when you gave it gas the alternator peept it to run okay.

Than afterwards... the battery was charged okay due to simply the alternator charging it back to health.

yuppp! leavin the car without startin for a week the battery was discharging very little as the days went by and didn't have the juice to start the car but once you hit the gas you spun the alternator powerin up your car to start...after drivin a while you charged the battery so thats why your able to start fine now....usually if imma leave my car still for a while, every few days i start the car for like 5 mins just to keep the battery charged and engine lubed

my car does this sometimes too...even when it doesn't sit for a long time. just keep in mind that something else could be the culprit besides the battery.

Hm, I actually thought of this but dismissed it as being to easy. But now that others agree I think you guys may be correct. The battery terminals (and body ground) are coverd in yellow acid, so I will go clean that off now and make sure the terminals are tight.

Clean it off with carb cleaner and put some dielectric grease on the terminal post and no more corrosion on your battery.

I agree with everyone else, most likely the battery. Mine has done the same thing many times. One time I had to buy a new battery - the other one apparently died a slow lonely death due to my neglect...Oops. But I'd change out that fuel filter anyway if you think it's never been changed.
