If it starts pinging then run higher octane.

Now with my Durango because of the mods that I've done to it I have to run higher octane to keep it from pinging(plus other mods). There are tricks at least with V8's that you can do to keep it for pinging that might apply here also but I'm just getting back into the import seen because I needed a daily driver since I was tired of paying $150 a week in gas. And I need something to drive while I pull my Durango a part for more mods. Here are some of the tricks (someone jump in if I'm wrong about Honda's). But I would think it would also apply here.

Run a cooler spark plug (a degree or two cooler), cooler T-stat, and if you can trick the ECU into riching the mixture then you can keep it from pinging as much.

The POTENTIAL is there to damage your engine and the couple of dollars you save will not make up for your lost fuel economy. You will also lose performance. If there is knock, the knock sensor will pull timing... thereby reducing power. I have no idea why people try to cheap out on gas... it's just not worth it. I guess the manufacturers have no idea what they are talking about when they tell you what fuel to use.

Kind of defeats the purpose of using cheaper gas when you have to use more of it.

Ya I know but it was more of a pinging because of lack of fuel do to mods. Doesn't apply here.

You are speeding.

You are on "E". I hope that you were on your way to a gas station.

:werd: There's no point in using premium gas in an LS/RS/GS.

supercharged... and just like ^^ he ^^ said... your saving 2.60 each time you fill up ... even in a bad week... i'll fill up 3 times... thats not even $10 a week... you would never notice that money... and it's better for the car.

but your right... stock versions don't NEED it.. but why not

reason: it has a knock sensor.
yup yup/....u can use a lesser octane fuel although ur not going to get the same performance or fuel mileage, if u took time to read your owners manual it says the same thing, it tells you you can use a lower octane when necessary and that the car will "detune" itself to compensate for the inferior fuel. although like everyone else says why cheap out on 3 bucks, just spend it and get the premium...its worth it
