Ok, well me and a few mechs are confused on what is going on here. My fans do not click on, even when heater is all the way up. I just replaced the thermostat and the fan switch that is connected to the thermostat, i drained my coolent and replaced fluid, i squeezed out all the air bubbles. all connections seem to be fine. and after about 10 mins of driving it will overheat, idle is fine, doesnt ever overheat during an idle, and last time i drove, the temp guage would change from normal to high and back down rapibdly towards the end of the driving session, i unpluged the hose that connects to the intake to check and see if my head gasket is gone, i didnt see any white smoke what so ever, so please help me out a little here, give me some insight on what to do or look for. im stumped...

 

So is the only indication that the car is overheating the fact that the temp gauge is rising above a safe operating temp? You may have already thought of this, but I was thinking maybe the temp gauge sending unit is giving false readings and could be in need of replacement.

 

Your radiator could not be functioning correctly. How old is it? You might want to check the fan relay under the hood as well.

 

Have you hot wired the fans yet to see if they even function? Your fans will click on when you turn on your a/c. So turn on the a/c and see if the fans kick on. Next on the list would be to check the fan relay's in the fuse box by your battery.

 

my radiator fan only kicks on when I turn on the A/C. Never any other time. And the condensor fan never kicks on. Could I have a bad relay as well, fan switch, or what?

 

to save headache on trying to find the problem, just by pass the relay. so when you turn the car on. the fan will go on.

 

Well, your condensor fan would worry me. That fan should click on no matter what when the a/c turns on. I would check the wiring. Then check the fan itself by hot wiring it. Then if the fan works, check the relay. Also, I would check the fan switch for the radiator fan and then the same items I stated to check for the condensor fan. You might want to get your hands on a helms manual to better assist you. Check out the sticky in the Civic forum that says "online resources." There is a link to d/l a helms manual in there.

sorry i havent been keeping up but anyways, i jumped the fans, they work. I replaced the thermostat, replaced the coolent temperature switch that triggers the fan. And it is not the gauge cause the car does get really hot. So, the only thing i can think of now, is that the headgasket is blown, since its like its not passing through the thermostat. yea really sucks so im taking it to my friend ( a acura mech) to see what the real deal is, ill post up tomorrow what they say


*edit* wow im happy now.... turns out to be the motor to the cooling fan... and the coolent switch to the fan was also bad that i put in.

 

Hey ITHINKYOURLOST I been having this problem since I move from California to Phoenix AZ I have notice overheating on my '96 Gs-R and my cooling fan is not switching on only the condenser fan for the A/C.
