H22A or B18c Type R....Need help guyz!
hey guyz,
i am new here, i am sure this question would have already been asked before, but i just want an answer that suits my situation....appreciate that..
the scenario is that i have a civic 95(four door) and i want to change its motor, now the question remains, that should i go for a h22a or a b18c-R?
i will make things clearer...... i am not goona be using the car for drags or nething....not a hard core racer.... just need enough performence for fun...
i will have a fair amount of running everyday on it.....so reliability is a definate rquirement....
i am not looking to do a turbo setup on it.... will just have basic upgrades.... exauts/intake/plugs./wires etc....
i can buy either of them but need a recommendation which suits my situation, which gives me maximum performence with those basic upgrades and maximum reliability as well... ...
appreciate it...

you should go with a gsr motor.
the h is just a big ass mofo, it will fit but it wasnt made to be in that car. it's like retrofitting a bigblock into a car designed for a small block.
the b18c5/b18c (r) is a total waste of money as it's much higher in price and no where near as getting enough bang for your buck.
for a quick ride with a motor that was designed on the same platform without going overboard, i'd have to say the GSR/SiR-G b18c1.
with a mild port and polish and some headwork you should be able to get some more power out of it than stock, but honestly, the power gain from the swap alone will be enough to put a grin on your face.

hey ,
hmmm well from wat i have figured out so far, i think its clear i dun wanna go with H22A...... since alot of adjusting/cutting wud have to be done to fit it in a 95 civic....and might have to lose on some basic need such as AC... which i really dont want....
so now i guess i need to decide between the GsR and 18cR motor...... well the GsR motor is 178hp.... and the 18cR is 210hp.... so there is a 32hp difference....
but is that difference worth the difference in price?....
i need answers to that.....thanks
just off the record...... gsR motor is better suited to turbo setups then 18cR ....since it has low compression and can be set on higher boosts....is that right?..... without changing the internals that is....

h22 swaps have become easier.... so i would look into more... but the GSR is a good engine too h:

id go with H22, the weight difference is really minimal, a lot of times you can find an H22 cheaper than a b18c1... more power.... like Rico said, they've become easier, they are more common than ever before but a lot of people still arent doing them so they are more available than a B series.
but i definitely wouldnt buy a b18c5 unless you find one cheap.

ahaan.... well availability is not an issue for me... i am getting all the motors.... just a question of which one....
hmmm i wud contradicting myself by saying this.... but my idea has kinda changed in the last few days.... ummm i am actually now considering a turbo setup.... but no internals...
and i dun wana lose on things such as AC and stuff.... and dun wana do too much of cutting and chopping....so H22A is not the one i guess....
and i believe a gsr motor with a t3/t4 turbo setup ..... wud cost me a bit more then the 18cR.... not a fortune more i guess..... so i beileve it wud be best to get a GSR do a turbo setup on it... leave the internals stock...
which wud give me .... more performence then either of the other two motors(when stock) obviously.... and will be realiable as well...
which is a must....since i wud have a fair amount of running...and i dun want ne hassels....
someone can prove me wrong and give me ne other idea.....wud appreciate it.... thanks

man every time i see "wud" :a: stop that.
you dont have to cut or chop anything for the H22, you just have to get a mounting kit. you have to get one if you swap a b series so there is really no difference. however it WOULD make it difficult (or impossible) to have A/C or maybe even PS... but you can check into that for sure by using the search function.
