Default Port and Polish?

My sons LS engine is out of his car and in the process of being rebuilt.
Would you all suggest port and polishing the head and if so what type
of benefits would I realize in terms of hp and torque? Also, is this an
expensive upgrade. I'm looking to build a good strong N/A motor thats fun
to drive with good reliability.

Thanks,

Doug

planned upgrades:

forged pistons, JP.
new rings
clean everything up
new seals, gaskets etc.
grind head
new greddy or d/c header
stock intake manifold for now
new motor mounts
AEM \CAI
remove PS
possible chip for Ecu
keep A/C
new thermastat
flush radiator
new belts all the way around
plugs and plug wires (oem)

That's all for now. Just wondering how much the P&P would help.

Thanks,

Doug

A port and polish would be a good investment IMO. This will make everything you bolt on like the header, intake, intake manifold actually function to it's full potential. When you add those bolt ons onto a stock head it adds power, but not as much if you were to add openening up parts onto an open head that is ready to port flow the air through w/higher volume and efficiency. I would estimate that the gain would be anywhere from 8-14hp. and it will run you anywhere from 550-800 bills for a good street/strip P&P. There is a guy in Gardena, forgot his name or the shop name. He is well known in the drag scene and does a lot of work for the pro's. His prices are reasonable too. If I remember anymore I will post it here. Anyone?
