knock sensor
just wanted to know if my car would start up if a knock sensor was bad or not hooked up at all, im not planning on removing it if that is what you guys think, just wanted to know, thanks

Is this with B18C*.. or an LS/VTEC conversion? h:
In either case, the car will start and run, but VTEC will not engage.
The B18C* ECUs will expect feedback from a knock sensor before opening the VTEC solenoid. I believe you'll also log a CEL in the process.

its a b18c1, i took it for a drive and you could hear and feel the vtec kick in, the reason is because a few weeks ago i totaled my body and so i took the tranny and engine and put it into a civic, i took it for a test drive yesterday beacuse he said it was done, but he also said that the check engine light would come on because he hadnt installed the knock sensor yet, said he is doing it tomorrow. all and i also used the ecu from my gsr just so you know,

In this case, I have no idea because vtec shouldn't be engaging with a CEL code 23.

Perhaps we're all being decieved...

I did a little reading on the knock sensor a while back and was reinformed that the knock sensor cannot be grounded out. This thread explains all: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1181854
