Default Thinking about b20 vtec

whats up everybody
I have a 98 gsr with what i believe to be shot piston rings.
I wanted to do a b20 vtec, but i just need a little bit of advice...

does a crv b20b block fit right up to a b18c1 head? with no mods or machining?

will i need to buy a vtec conversion kit?

What year crv block do i need to buy? or does any b20b block work with my b18c1 head?

THANKS A MILLION

You would need a conversion kit, and you'd be looking at spending alot more mmoney then just replacing the pistons and rings. Any one would work but the B20Z has higher compression yielding more HP.

yeah the shop guys told me to might as well do an engine rebuild if the piston rings are shot. do you think thats a good idea? how much more would the rebuild cost (all oem) than to just replace the pistons and rings?

well if your up for it... start researching "ls-vtec" ...

yes the 2 parts will mate up fine.... but you may want to resurface the head before you place it on the block so you don't end up with leaks....

the vtec conversion kit isn't REQUIRED but it makes a shitload easier to do...and it's completely worth the money

as for the year... as long as it is a B-series... the block and head will match up... so you could do an LS block if you wanted (ready to go shipped for about 600).... so ur options are open

please start researching Ls-Vtec

What He Didnt Tell You Is That You Need To Have The Oil Passage In The Head That Is Used On A Vtec Block Plugged Off And A Vtec Line Ran Form Your Block To Your Head If You Dont Do That You Will Have A Massave Oil Leak I Know I Just Did One

that's great if you just did one... thank you for correcting me on plugging the oil line on the block... but the point of the vtec conversion kit is so that you don't have to run new oil lines...and u don't have to tap the head/block for another oil line

So what does he have to do if he gets that kit?

what the vtec conversion kit does for you is reroute the oil in the head (i believe) so that he does not have to tap the head for a new oil line... it saves you the :noes: of drilling into your head... he still has to...

1)remove old head
2)replace all bolts with OEM or ARP
3)replace intake/exhaust manifolds
4)if knock sensor is an issue it needs to be bypassed or added
5)most likely resurface the head to be on the safe side
6)plug the old oil feed line

umm that is an incredibly rough idea... but there it is... check this out for a full detailed write up
