Default b16a2 in my teggy

I have a chance to buy a complete b16a2 long block from a buddy with 32k on it from a 00 civic si he swapped a gsr into. I can get it for 300 bucks and my current ls motor has 150k on it but doesnt show any signs of letting up anytime soon. (great compression, half quart of oil in between cahnges). I want to go all motor. (basic bolt ons and head work). If I would swap the b16 in, I would put a gsr tranny or a b16 tranny in. Tell me if you think I should pick it up for the good price. thanks in advance

I wouldn't install the B16A2, frankly.
The deficit in torque will drive you nuts given the weight of a DC4.

That said, have you considered building a proper LS-VTEC motor? If you don't have to worry about California smog laws, the combination of the B16A2's head and your B18B1 block will be very potent.

Yes, I reliability wasn't such a big issue with ls/vtec, I would go for it. The car needs to be a daily driver.

Correct me if I wrong, but my 94 integra rs wieghs almost the same as the gen 2's and the b17a's in them aren't bad at all and they have the same specs as a b16a.

The weak link in the bottom end are the con-rod studs; they stretch with continued high-rpm load, leading to spun bearings. How mechanically inclined are you? If you upgrade the rod bolts, oil pump and water pump and keep her below 7500rpm, you'll be fine.

Yep, the torque to weight ratios are close enough to be comparable. I just don't see the value in making the swap when more powerful alternatives are available. h:

From a practical standpoint, I don't see the value in going through the ODB-2 to OBD-1 conversion simply to gain approximately 20 hp and lose 10 lb-ft of torque. :dunno: Even with the swap completed, you'll be running low 7s to 60 and about 15.0 in the quarter.

I would say that you should go for the b16A2. If you throw some cams(type r,skunk2,edlebrock,etc) Intake manifold(type r ,skunk2 etc) and all the other bolt ons you should a pretty nice engine for under or around 1000-1500 bucks.
I see it this way
engine $300
cams of your choice $275-575
Intake manifold $250-400
header 250-350

That puts you at about $1000 and maybe 180-190 hp. These are all guesstimates on power and money . I would go for the b16 if i was in your position

ok well I have a act hdss clutch and 8 pound flywheel for my car waiting go in and I was thinking of just swapping the ls tranny out for a b16 or gsr tranny. Will I notice any thing performance wise with this swap?

B16 or GSR tranny?
