Default I'm replacing my wheel bearing today.

Hello? i am about to change my front driverside wheel bearing today in about 6 hours. Any of you had any difficulties with it? is there any problem I might come across? Thanks in advance for any advice!

you know you need a hydralic press right? the hardest part of that job is seperating the control arms from the hub. I use a gear puller which works pretty well as long as it can dig in somewhere, but be ready for a serious battle getting those guys apart.

yeah, you will definitely need a hydraulic press. those bearings are not something you can get out with a hammer. i didn't find the balljoints too difficult to seperate, but then again i did end up tearing the boot on one of them. but definitely be wary of them. they are known to cause headaches. i also had trouble pulling the driver-side axle out of the hub. it was seized in there pretty good. passenger-side seperated just fine.

but anyway, def. be sure to have access to a hydraulic press. if you do, and you intend on using it yourself, be sure to have someone there that's familiar with the quirks of using one. if not, don't do anything until you can find out how to get those bearings swapped.

and the ultimate rule of thumb, anything that can go wrong will. h:

I would give yourself more than a 6 hour window. If you have never removed the hubs before, you are probably looking at a 2 hour job since you will most likely run into problems. You will need to get the bearing pressed out and that took 4 hours for a machine shop to do for me. Then, you have to put the hubs back on.

Default Work is done! thanks for the replies.

I just got done, everything took 2.5 hours. I took both of the control arms and the new bearings to a mechanic and he charged me $35 for both of them. I brought them back and done. so basically got both fronts done for $57+$57+35=$149. bearings were $57 each at bumper to bumper store. Acura Dealer quoted me for $325 each side.
I went for a test drive, and it was sooooo quite. I love it. I definitely recommend doing it for poeple who has wheel bearing noise.
I am a happy camper.

:bs: impossible. you didn't use a press AND it took you only 45 minutes to do the entire job? you're full of shit.

Can someone describe wheel bearing noise?

When I reach ~40mph, I hear this noise that sounds like it is coming from the front/right side of the car. Almost like a strange humming noise. Is this a faulty wheel bearing? My car has ~70k miles on it...is it normal for the bearing to go out at that mileage?

Thanks!

Yeah, wheel bearings make a whirring noise.
