Default Oil buring prob

okay so my 91' LS has been burning oil for quite some time now and i have done a compression test and all that good stuff and have decided that my valve seals are shot. im figuring from sitting so long because the car was parked at a dealer lot for about 3 months and then when i took it how changed the oil it started smoking like a bastard so i was figuring okay car has 130k on it and its been sitting and since i just changed the oil it broke up some sludge and debris that was in the engine causeing the valve seals to go. well now that im getting ready to replace them i want to know how hard of a job this would be to do on my own or should i just take it to a mechanic (could you please tell me an estimitated price). and also any tips or manuals that you know of or a DIY forum online.

Thanks
