Default Is my tranny bad

I have a 94 gsr. Ive got this problem. I was going down the interstate, everything was fine, was doing about 65. Went to dwn shift and had nothing. Tried to put it back in the gear that i had it in and still nothing. didnt make any kind of noise whatsoever. I had this guy that does cheap work oncars at his house look over it and we decided it was my passenger side axel. It had popped out. So he took it apart and the little gears or splines whatever they are were stripped off, the little ones on the end. So i went to the auto store and bought another axel. When i got back the guy was still checking it out and said that the gear that holds the axel in was stripped off alittle. he told me if he put the new axel back in, it would probably come right back out. Well he was right. Didnt drive more than 10 miles and it popped back out. it still did not make any kind of noise at all. When i asked him about this he said that i needed anew tranny because you couldnt just replace the part. So now i need some help, i dont want to have to go somewhere to have some one look at it for an outragous amount of money and i still have to get it towed. dont want to have to replace the whole tranny because im getting an engine and tranny swap in may done, but till then i dont have a ride and my girl keeps bitchin at me cause i have to use her car to get to places.

try to find a firestone tire and auto care store, they will fix it right or refund your money.

Either buy a beater or replace the tranny. WHat you can do is! You can get a messed up tranny and remove yours and have them change the diff. Then slap the tranny back on. Cheaper I would think that way.

^ it would be... but thats a shitload of searching and whatnot just to find a tranny with the proper parts that he has fucked up...

have you checked with the dealer?

what swap are you doing exactly... b/c you might be able to squeeze a cheap shit-tranny in there (cough) LS (cough) and spend a few hundred... just to get you thru the next couple months...

or just get a beater... but if your GF is bitchin at you about this... then she prolly wouldn't like an 89 stanza in the driveway... it's not exactly "balla" if ya know what i mean

found out that it is my spider gears.gonna cost 9 to 12 hundred to fix! at least that is the going price around here.I found a company that sells jdm transmissions for 1095 with 30k or less. sound like a good deal? if not where else should i look, not doing an engine swap anymore just rebuilding my old one.

in that case ... yeah that seems like a good setup, but i'd still suggest getting a beat up tranny for a few 100 and having it rebuilt with the excess cash.. end up spending about 1000-2000 for a brand new tranny
