Default Lost 5th gear???

1989 Acura integra 1.6 3-door

Driving down the highway and lost 5th gr.Have reverse through 4th though. No crunching sounds in tranny when it went out.Rpm's just shot up and then no power. Someone told me it was the clutch,a mechanic told me that if it were the clutch, the other gears wouldn't engage. Also was told that the bar that goes into the trans. could be bent and may not be engaging into 5th. My last resort would be dropping the tranny and checking the gear out.

hopefully someone out there has had this happen and knows the solution to my prob.

Check the retaining screw for your shifter under the car. If you lost it or are losing it you may not be able to get the shifter to engage 5th.

does the shaft separate from the tranny or does it move back and forth inside it?

The retainer screw I was referring to is located where the shifter meets the linkage.

when u move the shifter from inside, it moves in the engine compartment. so move it around in nuetral so they know where to look, then put it into 5th (engine not running) and have someone watch it if it goes in or not. if it does then check the tranny out then hitup the junkyard or classifieds.

did you hit a bump on the interstate, cus i was cruzin kinda fast, hit a bump in the road and my 5th gear went out. Every gear other than the 5th worked, took it to a tranny shop and they said it wouldnt last much longer, broke some stuff inside, they were right, tranny completly went. baby the tranny till you can fix it
