I would recommend just some bottom end work. Look into some forged pistons and connecting rods so you can turn the boost up.
You may want to also look into some bolt-ons to make the setup a little more efficient. A wider downpipe, high flow cat, 3" exhaust, itr/ctr cams, larger injectors, and some better form of engine management (assuming you don't already). Some information about the setup would be nice in helping you out.

I was gonna get these for my 2000 GS-R:
Spoon Racing Camshaft - $1045
Spoon Sports Balanced JDM Type R pistons - $360
Spoon Cam Gears - $310
Spoon Close Gear Set - $2530
It may cost a few $, but I know it's gonna be worth the $ spent!

Yeah, I would upgrade the downpipe to 2.5" piping and get a high flow cat on there. Also, you should upgrade the injectors so you can run more boost if you desire.
Or you could be really safe about it and put some low compression forged pistons and rods in, upgrading the injectors, getting a legitimate fuel management system, and then cranking up the boost for some good numbers.
