brake problem? please help!
Ok, so I've been having a problem with my car shaking really bad sometimes( See related link: https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s....php?t=212163). Well, anyway I was driving my usual 12 mile trip to campus today (downtown) and about halfway there the shaking started again. It was really bad. Well, anyway, when I finally parked I noticed that when I pushed the clutch in and took the ebrake off to see if the car would roll, it wouldn't roll backwards at all, like it usually does when I park on the roof of the parking garage. I got out to look at my brakes and when I got to my front passenger side, I could feel a lot of heat coming from the wheel area. I felt my wheel and it was really hot! I mean, like burning to the touch. What's the deal here? Do I have a seized-up caliper or what? All the other wheels/brakes seemed fine, temperature wise. Thanks for any help.

sounds like your caliper is seized. that means the piston in the caliper wont move to apply pressure to the pad and rotor. you need a new caliper of thats the case. take the caliper off and try to force the piston in with a large pliers or clamp. if the piston doesnt go through then your piston is seized.

I forgot to mention that all of this shaking was when the car was cruising/accelerating. Is replacing the caliper an expensive fix? Where's the best place to get a replacement caliper without spending a fortune? I kinda wanted to do the brake job myself. Is changing out rotors/calipers very difficult? What sorts of tools do I need? I already figured I needed a brake job anyway because the car was shaking upon braking as well...

i dont know how much a caliper would cost, it shouldnt be THAT much.
brake jobs are so easy, just take your time. you need basic hand tools to do this(pliers, screw drivers, wrenches, and sockets and ratchets.) you might have a hard time removing the two phillips screws that hold the rotors on because its best to use an impact driver on them. you can use a regular phillips screw driver bust be carefull not to slip when you're turning or you'll strip the head of the screw.
for the pads its just remove and replace. when you put the new pads in you'll have a clearence issue with the caliper piston, but dont worry. use a large set of pliers or a clamp to push the piston back in, then slide the caliper back on the pads and bolt everything up. its that simple, just dont tighten too much or you can break the bolt and/or strip the threads in the bracket.
for the rear calipers you would need to turn the piston back in, just use a big pry bar for that if you have one. i hope this helps and good luck
oh and to replace the caliper all you need to do is unbolt the brakeline, take the caliper off and bolt the brakeline to the new caliper. thats all. after you do this you're going to need to bleed your brakes because after unbolting the line causes air to get into it and you'll have bubbles. do a search on how to bleed brakes. its pretty easy with a friend.
