Turboing a Type R
Im sure this question has come up before and i know your gonna tell me to do a search but Im tossing up either getting a lancer evo 8 or integra type r. i like the lancer better but i have always wanted a type r turboed. first off basically id like to know how reliable a type r would be with like a rev hard turbo kit for daily driving. i dont want to blow my motor by turboing it so im trying to hear what you guys have to say. please let me know what u think and let me know what else i need to get to make it run right clutch, exhaust, fuel pump etc. thanks.

As long as you have solid engine management and you don't get trigger happy with the boost controller, it will be fine at the stock boost level.
Scope out the different options for engine management, find a tuner, and go with what he is most comfortable tuning.
Personally, I would just spring for a GSR and boost that. The insurance will be lower and a boosted Type-R will be stolen so fast, it will make your head spin. You will run into a lot more problems if you boost the Type-R since it was never intended to be boosted. If you want to save yourself the headache, get the Evo.

the drivetrain of the EVO sucks... if anything look at an STI (the transmisions are beefy as all hell, plus you get an extra 500cc to work with)
as for turboing a type-r you can. it all depends ont he engine and how it was treated. i suggest getting a compression test done before you buy the car to see whats up, and if the results are good theres nothing stopping you from slapping a turbo on there.

As for reliability, the less you touch it the less it'll break. For performance i'd really look at what type of driving you plan on doing. A turboed type-r and an evo definitely have their weak and strong points for each racing type. Finally are you more comfortable with FF or FA?

Well, I have more admiration for people who build their own stuff and then it rips apart SRT's and EVO's and STI's and stuff. I mean that is jsut me. I think it takes more thoguht to do a turbo type r than jsut go out and buy a EVO. If you really want the EVO 8, jsut wait till the EVO 9 comes out. It will be out shortly. I mean SCHMOO's car is sickly fast.

im going against the grain here!!!!!!! i would leave the type r stock buy a gsr 94 to 95 boost that depending what type of money your working with.... each passing year finding a stock type r in good condtion is rare here in so cal it's hard not to find one "sitting on blocks" or stripped... resale will be real high if it's stock with low miles hell you might even make money!!!!!!!!!!!
